Gary always gets it right, there’s just something about his flawless draping, effortless separates and super chic colour palette. His recent venture into prints in the last few seasons are really exciting too! If you’ve ever met Gary the man himself, you’ll know his love for all things colourful and quirky, I have to say the first time I met him years ago when his collections were still pristinely minimal, I was a little confused. So it’s been such a pleasure to see more of his own sense of style starting to surface in his designs. I mean look at those colourful polka dots! I need those pants so bad. Added to mental cart already.

Baseball caps are a great way to instantly add an edge to your outfit, it’s a trend that’s really come from the ground up, street style darlings have been wearing caps to add an offbeat touch to their otherwise super fashionable looks for a few seasons now. The rise of street wear brand Supreme and sportswear inspired Alexander Wang certainly helps to move things along too.

It’s not a trend reserved only for weekends, you can easily work it into your daily wardrobe and even work wear for a touch of quirk. The trick of the trade? Get yourself a black leather baseball cap, not a traditional sports cap. Leather is sleek and edgy, black is classic and goes with everything. It really is the perfect way to update your outfits this autumn.

1 Way – Work it

Get the look: Gap t-shirt, Uniqlo jeans, Zara blazer, Isabel Marant shoes (similar style), Samantha Wills bangle and leather cap from Ebay.
When you have a work meeting that’s a bit more relaxed or a meeting with colleagues, dress as you would normally and just top it off with a cap. I’ve opted for black skinny jeans, white t-shirt, pump heels and a statement blazer in this look, which gives off a sleek yet creative vibe. I’ve tied my hair into a low ponytail, which means the cap can sit neatly on top and if I do need to take it off, I won’t have a dreadful case of hat hair. No one wants that right!

2 Way – Amp up the colour

One of the amazing things about a black leather cap is the way it adds edge to the most colourful and girly dresses! The next time you step out the door in a cute dress, throw a cap on, I guarantee you that it’ll work with almost any type of dresses, but it’ll work especially well with above the knee or mid calf length dresses. My arnsdorf tunic is a trusty number I’ve had for a couple of years, I wear it as a dress, I tuck it into my jeans and wear it as a top or over my bikinis at the beach, the orange is the perfect pop of colour. Keep your shoes and accessories simple and classic when wearing something colourful, it’ll help ground the look, so you don’t appear too cray cray.

Hot tip: Wear your hair out to keep the girly vibe through your look!

3 Way – See you on the court

Now this is the leather baseball cap in its natural habitat, worn with denim, t-shirt and sneakers. When said sneakers comes with a boost in the form of a hidden wedge, like these Isabel Marant babies, well, that’s even better! Be bold and stand out on the court with a sports inspired t-shirt, this Tisci number has its roots in fashion but it’s also hip so the guys won’t tease you. I’ve kept the accessories in silver tones to lighten up the outfit. My hair, I thought a higher ponytail looped through the back of the cap is perfect as I love the way it bounces around whether you are playing basketball or tennis.

Cue is a well established Australian brand that has been around for over 40 years, besides having stores in every Australia and New Zealand major city and still being run by the same family to this day the heart of the business is its Design Team. I visited their space recently and was surprised by the stories uncovered!

Their current office is on the top floor of Holt and Hart; an amazing building in the budding creative hub of Holt St in Sydney’s Surry Hills, the team at Cue collaborated with the architects to get the interiors just right. With specially commissioned light art pieces by Jonathan Jones both in the lobby and foyer, the office space is striking to say the least.

The design team at Cue are a wonderful bunch of women, with Design Director Debi at the helm, who’s been with Cue for more than 30+ years, a rarity in fashion, let alone in this fast moving day and age, you get the sense that Cue is like a big family, if it’s the right fit, then they’ll nurture you and your talents, it’s about mixing experience with a fresh touch to create the best mix for the Cue woman.

So what do the designers wear to work? Turns out, it’s all about layering, statement sneakers and flats at Cue HQ. With a mini collection designed, produced and delivered online and to store each and every week, these girls are busy bees. All of the designs and first samples are produced in house with a good portion of the final garments made here in Australia. Fashion that supports Australian made and design; yes please!
